Quiznos

I am sitting here reading the Sunday paper and received some great offers for savings at Quiznos for their new Toasty Torpedo. I would love to go check this new sandwich out, but I have vowed to never go back to Quiznos again for reasons I will mention shortly. If you have been reading this blog for some time, you know that Quiznos will now join Wendy's on my list of restaurants I will never visit again.

1. Location Size - I have only visited one Quiznos location that has enough seating inside.
That is the location in Lake Mary. There is another one in Sanford connected to a Tuffy's Auto Shop that is so small that the UPS driver that comes in every day puts his little machine on a table to reserve it for himself even before he has ordered his sandwich. I have been tempted to just sit down at his table while he is still in line. He can start acting like a civilized human being and waiting for a table like the rest of us. That's what brown can do for me. They usually have long lines and there is hardly ever enough room for everyone to sit down and have lunch. And if you know me, I am not going to be eating outside.

2. Indifferent Employees - Quiznos has got to be the leaders in the hiring of "I don't give a shit" employees in the fast food industry. I have never received as much as a smile or a "How may I help you" from any of them. They just stare at you and wait for your order. What a bunch of social inept losers.

3. Hand Written Signs - All of the locations in our area have the hand written signs on the front door and at the order counter that read, "Coupons are not accepted at this store." WTF is that? Corporate runs a promotion for savings on sandwiches to drive traffic to their locations and then the stores decide they are not going to honor the coupon offers. I cannot remember the actual particulars, but this came to a head a couple of months ago when they ran a huge promotion for a free sandwich and many of their stores across the country refused to honor the promotion. As a marketing person, I can only guess how frustrating it must be heading up their marketing and have to deal with those franchisees.

4. Prices - I have purchased my last $8.00 sandwich from Quiznos. Their items are way too expensive for the quality of the sandwich you get. There are plenty of other shops that offer better sandwiches for less. The only thing that made a trip to Quiznos worth while was when you could use a coupon for a savings. However, that isn't the case anymore. (See number 3 above) Subway must be killing them with the "$5.00 footlong" promotion they are running. I wouldn't really know, because I won't eat at Subway either. I'll reserve my comments for them in a later post.

Now you may love Quiznos and continue to frequent the establishment, but these are just my feelings. I am just sick and tired of a place that acts like they really don't care that you have chosen them for your lunch or dinner, refuses to honor their own coupons and then charges you maximum price for a mediocre sandwich. I am sure you know what I think they can do with their new "Toasty Torpedo".

Hey, Stiff Competition,
Your anger may be justified, however it is misdirected. The problems you experienced are because of Quiznos Corporation, not the individual store owners. Quiznos has made it virtually impossible for an individual owner to break even, let alone make a profit. Quiznos sells the food to owners at an inflated price (it is their main source of income) and then tries to force the individual restaurants to give the food away. This not only hurts the franchise owners but also the customers. QUIZNOS CORPORATE DOES NOT REIMBURSE FOR COUPONS. As a former franchise owner (owning a Quiznos left me broke & in debt) I encourage you to rant against them - but just direct your anger to the right place. As for the attitude you've experienced: it sounds like you are a nasty customer who has a horrible experience wherever you go (apparently Subway & Wendy's from your post.) Why don't you google Quiznos and get some hard facts before you rant next time? Otherwise, no one will take your blogs seriously.

The service at the two quiznos mentioned is just as described in the blog.

Ellen,

Thanks for your comments. I certainly appreciate your direction and breakdown regarding Quiznos Corporation. As a former franchise owner yourself, I am certainly sorry to hear you were left in a horrible situation through your experience. It sounds as if the model is set-up for failure, or a very difficult path to profitability at the least. However, this sounds like something that needs to be worked out between corporate and the franchisees and not leave the customer in a lurch when they visit a location with a coupon.

If you were still in business, I don't think you would consider me a nasty customer if I visited your location. I do not complain about things when I visit unless there are gross indiscretions and never cause problems for those working in the restaurants. I know I am a stickler about things, such as wanting my soup to be hot when served, but I do realize this is a tough business. I have sent soup back before, but that is usually the extent of my complaining if you want to call it that. I just tend to visit a location up to three times and if something is consistently wrong in my book, I just don't go anymore.

I will certainly take the time so send a note to Quiznos Corporate and let them know it makes no sense for them to run promotions that cannot be honored at the store level by franchisees that are taking a bath on said promotions. Again, thanks for the heads-up.

My issues with Subway are actually fairly baseless in that they go way back to when Subway used to cut out a wedge in the top of their bread versus slicing down the sides. I just have never been able to clear that hurdle and go back. If you remember when they used to slice their bread that way, you will be dating yourself. LOL As for Wendy's, I have written their corporate office on separate occasions regarding what I feel is their poor level of service. To me, not being able to put a slice of cheese on a sandwich as requested on a consistent basis is a problem for a chain such as Wendy's. I've just made the decision that I will never go back, which is a shame because I like their food.

Since you are so close to the Quiznos issues, I can see how my post may have rubbed you the wrong way and for that I apologize. If you ever get back into the restaurant business, I hope your next experience is positive.

Eat, drink and be merry!
